SERVE WITH PRIDE
Ste Gen FD is looking for people who are interested in becoming volunteer members. For a member’s time and commitment we provide equipment and training in a motivating real world environment in order for you to gain an understanding, competence and receive certifications in firefighting. We accept applications throughout the year and bring new members at various times.
Last night SGFD got another opportunity to use an "acquired structure soon to be torn down" for our training session. Due to being in the city and our meetings being at night, we were somewhat limited to some of the evolutions we could due without disturbing the neighbors. We were able to practice hose line advancement, interior search and rescue, ventilation and VES (vent-enter-search) of target areas of a house. Have you ever wondered what it looks like inside a fire? We have attached a short video clip of simulated entry in a smoke filled house. There is usually less visibility than this shows, but it is difficult to simulate the real thing. We also have pics of a firefighter entering thru a window for a search and fire fighter Kate coming out the window head first for rapid exit.
Remember this weekend is spring forward time. “Change your clock ⏰ Change your batteries 🧯
Always training to make ourselves and the community safer. There when you need us!
The City of Ste Genevieve and Ste. Genevieve County have issued a burn advisory for our area effective immediately. Burn advisory is similar to a weather watch (the conditions are favorable for bad things to happen). The advisory is due to warm temperatures, low humidity, high winds, and moderate drought conditions. Small fires can grow out of control rapidly. The advisory was placed in effect due to several large brush fires in the immediate region over the last few days requiring state wide mutual aid to extinguish.
It was a busy day for SGFD. The day started with an EMS assist for a long fall. We arrived to find a grain bin rescue. We had the first “real” deployment of the county technical rescue team. Special thanks to Zell Volunteer Fire Department,Bloomsdale Volunteer Fire Department, Weingarten Volunteer Fire Department and Ozora fire department. While on this call SGFD had a second call for a CO detector sounding that was handled by Bloomsdale FD. After getting back in service, we were dispatched to assist Kinsey Volunteer Fire Department with a structure fire in the north end of the county. Luckily it was only a problem with an HVAC system. All emergency services in the city and county work together to get the job done. There when you need us!
